VineCrest Sandy Ridge Vineyard
Hand planted in 1969, the 10 hectare vineyard sits on a sandy
ridge, near Nuriootpa, on the western edge of the valley floor.
Cuttings for the Sandy Ridge vineyard originated from “Kalimna”
vineyards, the two properties having very comparable soil
types.

Soil
- Varying depths of sand over mottled red clays with some
limey clays present.
- Minimum tillage due to the sand content.
Viticultural Methods
- Canopy management utilising double trellis lifting wires
or catching wires.
- Hand pruned (fixed armed, spur pruned)
- Viticultual methods undertaken to produce low yield premium
fruit –average 2 to 3 tonnes per acre.
Rainfall
- Average 20 inches rainfall per annum.

VineCrest Turrung Estate Vineyard
(Turrung meaning Tall Trees )
Planted in 1999, the vineyard is situated in the heart of
the Barossa Valley.
Total area of 12 hectares.
Region
Barossa.
GIC Sub region - Barossa Valley
Varieties
- Shiraz
- Cabernet Sauvignon
- Merlot
The red varieties are planted on Paulson rootstock, selected
for their low bearing, deep coloured fruit and intense fruit
flavours.
- Semillon
Planted on 14 / 101 – 14 Rootstock being the ideal
rootstock for the sandiest section of the Turrung property.
Soil
- Varying depths of sand / sandy loams overlaying red clays
and shale.
- Minimum tillage due to the sandy soil.
Viticultural Methods
- Canopy management utilising two wire vertical trellis
with catching wire – establishing open trellis for
optimum fruit ripening and verasion.
- Hand pruned – fixed arm, spur pruned.
- Pruned to encourage low yield, high quality fruit.
Rainfall
- Average 22 inches of rainfall per annum.
